Multi-media

I paint in a variety of mediums and styles so that I can help my students with their work. My classes are unstructured so that each student can follow their own path in whichever medium they choose.

For my own paintings my favoured medium is acrylics. I generally work on the backgrounds first, usually without a preconceived idea. I will texture with paint, build up with rice paper and/or collage with different  papers. I set the painting aside for a short while and come back to it with fresh eyes. I  look at the painting from several directions to see what it suggests, usually from a floral or figurative perspective. Then I work up the painting from there. My paintings are known for their colours and the mood they evoke.

I have travelled extensively and have been affected by art, artists and cultures in western Canada, the southern U.S., South America, Europe and western Asia.
