Karen Nonnecke

As a an artist I am always looking for fresh ways to respond to my environment. Recently I set the goal for myself of doing a painting a day. This has forced me to work quickly and spontaneously, focusing on the moment. Colourful, textural works have been the result. These acrylic paintings, for the most part, are painted on birch panels, mounted on pine frames. Sizes start at 8”x10”and continue to evolve in size. I don't know the outcome of this exploration, but it is wonderful to go into my home studio almost every day and just start painting. It gives me an unspecified space where things can evolve from something primal and non-linguistic.

"Each line is an actual experience. It does not illustrate. It is a sensation of its own realization. It's more like I'm having an experience than making a picture." Cy Twombly

I leave it to the viewer to engage with these works and perhaps find some trace of memory, connection or joy.
